The Administrative and Cultural Center of Rovaniemi is the essence of Rovaniemi’s post war reconstruction as designed by Alvar and Elissa Aalto.

In the guided tour at the administrative and cultural centre of Rovaniemi we will explore Aalto’s signature style. What made architecture of Aalto so unique and well appreciated? We will consider for example the significance of shape and light in Aalto’s architecture. Your guide will explain Aalto’s ideas about mankind, nature and technology, and we will consider how these ideas were reflected in his design and architecture. We will as well learn why the town plan of Rovaniemi looks like the head of a reindeer.

During the guided tour we will visit an exhibition about Alvar Aalto in the town hall of Rovaniemi, which has some of Aalto’s designs on display. We will experience the amazing and spacious lending room of the municipal library and we will focus on beautiful lamps and the importance of Artek furniture. In the library art by artists from Lapland is exhibited.
