Alvar Aalto Week in Kotka 26.8.-3.9.2023

This year, the seventh annual Alvar Aalto Week will be celebrated from August 26 to September 3, 2023, in Kotka. The main stage of the event week is the Sunila Pulp Mill and residential area designed by Alvar Aalto in 1936-54, also known as Finland’s first forest suburb. The week’s interesting and versatile programme opens perspectives on Sunila’s built heritage.

Sunila’s residential buildings form a harmonious whole that reflects the ideals of modern architecture. During the Alvar Aalto Week, there will be guided tours to sites in the area, through which interesting perspectives on the hierarchy of living in Sunila will open. As part of the event week, the public will also have a unique opportunity to visit Sunila’s delightful apartments during Sunilan Aalto-kodit (Sunila’s Aalto Homes) weekend on 2.-3.9.2023.
