The Alvar Aalto Route celebrates European Heritage Days for the second time with the Open Alvar Aalto Route Days programme. Members of the Alvar Aalto Route invite the public to discover Aalto’s architecture, design and the stories behind these unique sites.

European Heritage Days are the largest public heritage event programme in Europe. The theme for 2026 is Heritage at Risk. The theme encourages us to reflect on how we recognise and protect our cultural heritage, what kinds of threats our built and natural environments face, and how we can preserve them for future generations. It highlights the importance of safeguarding the cultural and historical identity of communities everywhere. Aalto’s architectural sites offer opportunities for visitors to explore and reflect on these themes.

The Open Alvar Aalto Route Days programme is organised by the Cultural Route on Aalto’s Architecture and Design Heritage Association and brings together members of the Alvar Aalto Route from across Europe. A wide range of European Heritage Days events will take place at Aalto’s architectural sites, including special guided tours, themed days, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, concerts and activities for children and young people.

Events taking place along the Alvar Aalto Route during European Heritage Days have been compiled in the event calendar.
