Sunilan Aalto-kodit Kotkassa

29.08 - 30.08
€25 – €40

Sunila Aalto Homes is an open house event that presents the former residential area of the Sunila pulp mill, located on the shores of the Gulf of Finland and designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto. The event explores architecture, interiors and design. Visit the pine-filled landscape of Sunila and enjoy the atmosphere of its homes.

The event will be held for the fourth time on the last weekend of August 2026. Visitors will have the opportunity to enter private homes in Sunila, most of which have been permanently inhabited since 1937.

Aalto’s Sunila also includes summer cottages, studios for artists and writers, and apartments furnished with design classics, available for year-round stays.

Sunila is an architecturally significant and cohesive area. It is included in the Finnish Heritage Agency’s 13-site World Heritage nomination, “Aalto Works”. The decision will be announced this summer.

The white, lime-washed apartment buildings and terraced houses of the Sunila factory community housing area are arranged in a fan-like formation that follows the curves of the terrain. Sunila is located by the sea, near the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park. Sunila and the city of Kotka are only an hour and a half east of Helsinki and Helsinki Airport.
