The Alvar Aalto Route Spring General Assembly was held 15-16 May in Kouvola with a record-breaking number of members present during the meeting days. The event proved once again the value of a strong network – the spirit was inspirational, open and full of ideas. Thank you City of Kouvola colleagues for the hospitality and impeccable program!
The General Assembly elected a new Chair of the Board of Cultural Route on Aalto’s Architecture and Design Heritage Association and President of the Alvar Aalto Route – 20th Century Architecture and Design. Congratulations Markku Hannonen from City of Kotka! Heartfelt thank you Johanna Rintamäki for all your work and insight during the past year!
In Kouvola the members of the association had an opportunity to visit the region’s numerous Aalto sites on a guided tour by Kouvolan matkailuoppaat and Aalto Inkeroinen Association. The spring evening offered a lovely setting to experience Aalto’s Mäntylä and Tehtaanmäki School among many others.
The program included a project workshop in which the members continued developing the route’s Sustainability Strategy with Anu Nylund from Mood of Finland. The strategy process is part of the Strength from Sustainability project funded by Finnish Heritage Agency.
