The Alvar Aalto Route is taking a major step towards more sustainable cultural tourism. The ongoing project “Strengthening Sustainability – Alvar Aalto Route as a Pioneer of Sustainable Cultural Tourism” aims to support travelers in making responsible choices and enhance the route’s environmental sustainability.

The Alvar Aalto Route is a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, connecting architectural sites designed by the iconic architect across Finland and Europe. The project is currently developing a sustainability strategy, improving communication with travelers, and enhancing the accessibility of low-carbon travel options.

What’s happening in the project right now?
🔹 A Sustainability Strategy is being created together with the route’s destinations to provide concrete tools for sustainable development.
🔹 Sustainability communication is being improved to offer travelers clear tips on responsible tourism.
🔹 Low-carbon travel options are being mapped out – cycling and public transport will be better integrated into the route.
