The Alvar Aalto Route – Cultural Route of the Council of Europe has been selected as one of the three featured projects for the 2025 European Heritage Days under the theme Architectural Heritage. The selection was made through a competitive call open exclusively to certified Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and European Heritage Label sites.

This year’s call invited creative and impactful approaches to engaging the public with Europe’s built heritage. The selected projects highlight how architecture can serve as a platform for education, dialogue, community engagement, and sustainable development.

Open Route Day – Celebrating Aalto’s Architecture Across Europe
The chosen project from the Alvar Aalto Route will bring together Aalto sites across Europe for a joint celebration. On a single coordinated day, participating destinations will open their doors to the public, offering local events and digital content in alignment with the European Heritage Days 2025 programme. The aim is to raise awareness of Aalto’s architectural legacy and its connection to European cultural heritage.

Other selected initiatives include:

  • Cisterscapes – The Cultural Laboratory, Czechia (EHL Site)
  • European Route of Jewish Heritage – Incubator, Luxembourg (Cultural Route)

The selection is an important recognition of the Alvar Aalto Route’s work in promoting architectural heritage and cross-cultural understanding.
